NEREA - the beginning of the trip
A teenager named Nerea discovers she has marine-like superpowers and is the bearer of a magic brooch with which she will be able to fight monsters sent by the Queen of the Caribbean Sea. This animated proposal tv show is a reinterpretation of what I would have liked my child hood to be. From the most banal things like learning to swim, be cause, despite being an islander, I don't know how to do it, to deeper aspects such as the loneliness of living in a broken family without my father or my reality as a black girl. It also stems from my commitment and respect for nature. Basically, Nerea is the super heroine I always wanted to be and that I seek to make known to connect with that audience that feels as I felt in my childhood.
The process...
The project began with the idea of creating a series that captures that Caribbean vibe that’s always been seen as a stereotype (you know, with songs and that constant Caribbean lifestyle). While I was washing dishes, I was talking with Nicole Hernández and Yanibel Díaz until we came up with the first sketches for the project. That’s what you see in this image. Then, some great people joined the team because they really believed it, including Brayan Jerez, the Alpha Eve team, Maximo Montero, Manuel Shoo, Violeta Lockhart, and Arima Leon to help finalize the proposal and entertainment plans. So... Thanks to them:
I had the greatest pleasure of participating in many festivals, programs, and contests such as: X Desarrollo de Ideas, Cima Impulsa, Stories x Women, Annecy, Ventana Sur, Premios Quirino, Hack Mafiz Málaga, Pictoplasma Academy, Next Lab, Pixelatl, South Fest, FONPROCINE 2024 ... and more...
So now, what are we doing?
Creating this type of project is a huge and ambitious challenge. So that's why I'm working on a short film proposal, which could be a good first step to bring this story to life. Natalia Peralta is a wonderful screenwriter who's helping us, and Violeta Lockhart (Minerva Films) is the producer. Then, we will start to find financial help and follow the transmedia strategy.
I hope to bring you some new updates really soon 🌊
